U.K. EVENTS CANCELED FOR NATIONAL MOURNING

A host of events in the U.K. have been canceled in the wake of the Queen’s death, including BBC fest Live at Leeds and Proms nights at the Royal Albert Hall.

There is no official obligation by the government to cancel events during the national period of mourning, which continues until the day of the Queen’s funeral, on 9/19. Still, some have been called off as a mark of respect.

Radio 2’s Live at Leeds, set to take place 9/17-18, is among them. Robbie Williams, George Ezra and Kaiser Chiefs were among the acts scheduled to perform.

Last week's two final Proms performances at the Royal Albert Hall were also canceled. Meanwhile, a new date for the Mercury Prize ceremony, which was shut down in progress as news of the Queen's death broke, has yet to be announced.

In the sporting world, this weekend’s Premier League match and this evening’s game have been postponed. Ongoing rail and postal-strike action has also been suspended until after the mourning period.
